If you or a family member is arrested by NAB or FIA — immediate legal action is critical. Expert guide from a white-collar defence lawyer in Bahawalpur.
An arrest by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) or the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is a serious matter requiring immediate legal action. Every hour without legal representation can compromise your defence.
Under the Constitution of Pakistan and the Code of Criminal Procedure, every arrested person has the right to be informed of the grounds of arrest, the right to consult a lawyer of their choice, the right to be produced before a Magistrate within 24 hours, and the right to silence.
1. Contact a lawyer immediately. NAB has broad powers of arrest and detention. Legal representation from the first moment is essential.
2. Do not make any statement without a lawyer present. Statements made during investigation can be used in court proceedings.
3. Apply for bail. NAB cases are non-bailable but bail can be sought before the Accountability Court and the High Court on grounds of illness, inquiry completion, or excessive detention.
FIA matters — including cybercrime (PECA), financial crimes, human trafficking, and anti-corruption — are handled before Special Courts. Pre-arrest bail from the Sessions Court or High Court must be sought as soon as an FIA inquiry is known.
Never appear before NAB or FIA without a lawyer. Even voluntary appearance for questioning can lead to arrest. Seek legal advice before any interaction with these agencies.
